Whoa...

edit: Return of service was achieved by mid-afternoon. Yay!

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
The webhost for my real blog on etherwork.net has been offline (once AGAIN) in the late morning. I have no idea when it will return. Fingers crossed that the outage will be for a shorter time today AND that when it does come back online, things will be stable for longer than 12 or so hours.

As always, the way to know whether etherwork is back online is to refresh this page. If you see a leafy image at the top of the page, then you can access the real blog.

And my real blog is back online again!

And at last etherwork.net is back online! Yay!!

sigh... my real blog once again offline

The webhost for my real blog on etherwork.net is offline AGAIN. I have no idea how long it has been offline, nor when it will return. Here is an excerpt from the updates page:

Updates - Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011 12:56:23pm

June 22, 12:50 PM - Server location issue

[T]here was a problem with the cooling system at our server location, and our servers were taken down to prevent any issues and to protect data. We are in the process of bringing them back up now. ETA approximately 30 mins, give or take.

edit 17:12EDT: I was really hoping that the "give or take" was not going to exceed an hour. Alas, the server is still offline and throwing "not found" error pages for my real blog.

I'm just hoping that the problem with the cooling system at the server location has nothing to do with a fire....

edit 17:37EDT: There is an update.

June 22, 5:34 PM - What a Day!

[...] The A/C for our section lost it's water, which means it couldn't cool things. 4 servers went down but the rest stayed up. This took down [the server for etherwork.net] Since bringing it back up, [it] has crashed 2 more times - it looks like there might have been some heat damage.

We are investigating what the issue is and what needs to be replaced.

Will keep you up to date.

Eeeek!! I'm trying not to fear the worst.

edit 19:01EDT: There is another update:

June 22, 6:55 PM - Failed Memory!

[The server for etherwork.net] has memory that has gone bad. We are getting a replacement in (eta 20mins) and bringing the system up - we expect it might need a fsck, but I will let you know.

Fingers crossed that nothing is lost...

05 June 2011

And my real blog is back online again!

I'm pleased to report that everything is back to normal. Whatever normal is....

The webhost for my real blog on etherwork.net has recently posted the following:

Updates - Sunday, June 5th, 2011 5:42:50pm

June 5, 1:44 PM - Back!

The upstreams seemed to have reduced the traffic to the point where the server can now respond.

I do see residual hits that are definitely related to the DDOS but the server is handling them.

We apologize for the inconvenience but we can't do much against traffic volumes of this size.

sigh... my real blog is currently offline

Updates - Sunday, June 5th, 2011 12:15:31pm

June 5, 10:44 AM - They're back at it

DDOS is back and attacking 4 key systems. One cPanel server hosting sites (cwpro1) is being attacked and is down.

Working with the NOC to filter out again. Will keep you appraised.
